About the experience

If you're intrigued about the life that lurks beneath the sea's shy blue waves, we have an experience for you that you should absolutely check out. Scuba diving aficionados go to the island of Netrani, which is barely 10 nautical miles off the coast of Karnataka. When viewed from above, the island takes on the shape of a heart, earning it the moniker Heart Shape Island. The seas here are alive with Turtles, Napoleon Wrasse, Great Barracuda, Cobia, White and Black Tip Sharks, Stingrays, and Stonefish, thanks to the naturally created coral reefs that run the length of the shoreline. Divers have reported having seen wild orcas and whale sharks surrounding the island on many occasions.

Netrani offers the easiest access to clear water diving in India. The visibility is usually over 15-30 meters,  water temperatures are in the 26 to 32-degree range, and marine life is rich in variety. Throughout the dive, the instructors will keep a tight eye on you, ensuring that you never escape their sight. Dives can take anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes, depending on your breathing capabilities and degree of comfort underwater. The seas are crystal clean from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. With the cameras given by the instructors, you'll be able to record a brief movie of your dive underwater.

Come explore the diverse world of marine life here at the famed Netrani Island!

FAQs

When is the best time to scuba dive in Netrani?

The best time of the year to scuba dive in Netrani would be between the months of November and January, as the weather conditions are perfect during these months.

I can't swim very well. Can I still go scuba diving?

Yes, as long as participants are physically fit and not afraid of the water, our instructors will provide all the coaching and assistance you need to make sure the dive goes off without a hitch.

Is scuba diving safe?

Yes, your safety is the top priority of our instructors. You will be well trained before setting off on your dive and even underwater, the instructors will be close to you to provide any assistance if required.

How long will my dive last?

The dive will last for 30-40 minutes in the sea.

How deep will I have to dive?

You will experience another world wearing scuba equipment with one of our Instructors diving to a maximum depth of 12 meters into the Arabian Sea.

Will there be dangerous marine life?

This depends entirely on where you are diving and what you understand by “dangerous”. In some areas, there are corals or plants which may sting if you brush up against them. Most marine animals do not attack and have stingers for defensive reasons only. Your instructor will explain to you how to interact with marine life in an observatory way which means you will experience some great encounters with many wonderful species. The golden rule is not to touch anything – most humans would be annoyed if something they didn’t know came into their environment and poked them!

What happens if I run out of air?

Firstly, it is highly unlikely that this will ever happen. During your Scuba course, you will be taught how to monitor your air supply frequently and you will learn that we never dive until the tank is empty, we always end the dive before air supply becomes an issue. You will also learn several different ways to deal with an “out of air situation” safely so in the unlikely event that you did run out you will have the skills required to manage the situation.

I wear glasses, can I still dive?

Yes absolutely. One option is to dive in contact lenses – daily disposables are best in case you lose one during some of the mask skills which can happen from time to time.
