History of Nagarhole National Park:

Nagarhole Tiger Reserve gets its name from the fusion of 'Nagar,' meaning snake, and 'hole,' meaning streams—a perfect depiction of its landscape adorned with pristine streams winding through tropical forests in a meandering fashion. These watercourses gracefully traverse eastward through the heart of the reserve, offering a mesmerizing natural spectacle.

Once the hunting grounds for the Maharajas of Mysore, including regions like Arkeri, Hatgat, and Nalkegin Kodagu, Nagarhole has seen remarkable transformations throught the years. In 1974, additional contiguous areas were incorporated, leading to its rechristening as Nagarhole Game Reserve. Subsequently, the reserve achieved the status of a National Park in 1988, witnessing a substantial expansion of 643.39 square kilometers. Recognized as a tiger reserve in 1999, Nagarhole continues to uphold its esteemed reputation, boasting a robust tiger-predator equilibrium as a testament to its conservation success. Are you yet not ready to explore this historic and biodiverse wonderland?
