Raogudlu - Don't miss these boulder problems when you go rock climbing in Bangalore - Part 2

This is the second part of our series on bouldering in Bangalore. This one is on Raogodlu:

While Turahalli is the more accessible climbing option on Kanakapura road, Raogudlu has an amazing variety and lots of potential for bouldering and even trad climbing in Bangalore. Given recent access issues at Turahalli, several Bangalore climbers moved base to Raogudlu and set up The Climbing Project initiative (TCP) which has developed the area considerably and grown that climbing community significantly.

Here is their pick of the top 10 boulder problems in Raogudlu:

The Epic Boulder at Raogudlu

1. Agni Parikshaa - 6C+, Classic sector, FA: Agniv sen (short version): This is a roof problem near the Pineapple Express highball. You can start deep in the cave or shallow.

2. The Snake Charmers Problem - 6C, Domes sector, FA: Nagaraj: You can find this boulder in the flat section about 50m below the domes. It is a beautiful balancy problem that requires very good footwork, core stability and strong fingers for the top out at the end.

3. Meteorite - 6B+, Meteorite sector, FA: Saurabh Chauhan: A high ball after which the meteorite sector is named, this is just down the hill and to the left of the domes sector. Thin and very balancy climbing for about 20ft till a large crack, from where it gets considerably easier to the top (another 10 ft). Opened by Saurabh (ropeless).

4. Flapjack (sit start) - 6B+/c, Meteorite sector: The boulder adjacent to (the left of) Meteorite. The problem starts on top of another boulder. The start and first couple of moves are finger intensive.

5. Sleeping Iguana(indirect) - 6A+, Middle earth sector: A High ball with a nice dynamic start that requires one to keep one's head nearer the top. Exits to the left. The Straight-up version remains a very scary project.

6. Cobra - 6C, Middle earth sector, FA: Dhiraj Deka: A sit start overhanging boulder problem. The link up from the bottom remains a project. From the lip to the top is a harder boulder problem.

7. Osama's crack - 5+, Middle earth sector: A 2-minute walk from Cobra. The crack can be seen across a clearing and is a stand-alone boulder at the end of a field. It is a chimney that looks like the more famous 'Plumbers crack'. Not a hard line but quite fun to climb up and down.

8. Grumpy Grandpa (GG) - 6A+/B, Fire ant hill sector: In the fire ant hill sector, this highball has been rehearsed several times on rope. Although not very hard on a rope but take the rope off and it is an instant classic. Very aesthetic line. The GG (direct) which remains a project might be a grade or two harder.

9. Flying Saucer - 6B, Fire ant hill sector, FA: Shwetank Kumar: This boulder problem is a 2 minute walk towards fire ant hill from GG. It is an upwards traverse on a sharp edge and gets quite pumpy towards the end.

10. Gaurakshak - 6B, Fire ant hill sector: This boulder is straight down towards the field from GG and is hidden from the view. The line starts under a small roof. This is a very interesting problem with unique movement.
