Things To do in Karkala

Overview

A visit to Karkala is incomplete without witnessing the magnificent Gomateshwara or Bahubali statue, the second largest of its kind. Built around 1432 AD by Veerapandya Bhairava Raja, the statue commemorates Prince Bahubali's 12 years of meditation and renunciation of worldly pleasures. Every 12 years, the statue is bathed in saffron paste, milk, and water during the auspicious Maha Masthakaabhisheka ceremony, offering a remarkable glimpse into the rich history of the area.
