What are some user reviews of Tso Moriri Lake?
Mesmerizing experience of changing colors of the sky over the lakes and mountains with the chilled wind soothes your soul. It's one of the best lakes and very less crowded compared to Pangong Lake. Better than Pangong Lake but don't stay at night there. Quiet and secluded, the way up there might be a little out of shape but it’s definitely worth visiting if you like the silence and untouched natural surroundings. Beautiful place to visit when in Ladakh. This is still one of the few less explored places in that area.
What are some important things to keep in mind when visiting Tso Moriri Lake?
1. The lake is at a very high altitude. It’s in higher altitude than Pangong Tso. Carry all necessary high altitude medications as recommended by the experts. 2. Temperatures can come down very drastically. We visited in early May, there was snowfall at night. We had booked a tent to stay at night, but the weather started to get cold and it was nearly impossible to stay at the tent. Locals were very helpful and they arranged for an alternate home stay understanding our situation, didn’t even charge any extra. 3. Tourism is in a very early stage. Road to the lake is not that great, it's under construction for many years now. 4. Need special permission to visit that area. There will be an ITBP personnel stationed near the lake to check all the required documents. 5. Acclimatization is very important before visiting this area. Recommend to visit this lake after at least 3-4 days of staying in and around Leh. 6. Don’t fall for the scam of some of the local cab drivers. They claim to show you Chinese settlements around the lake and may charge extra for showing the same. According to our home stay owner who is an ex-army man himself, this is a scam.
