About Jog Falls

Jog Falls, a jewel of Karnataka's Western Ghats, stands as one of India's most awe-inspiring natural wonders. Formed by the Sharavathi River as it plunges over a dramatic cliff, this waterfall is renowned for its sheer magnitude and stunning beauty. Unlike many tiered waterfalls, Jog Falls is a plunge waterfall, meaning the water drops directly without touching the cliff face, creating a dramatic spectacle.

The waterfall is divided into four distinct cascades, each with its unique character. Raja, the "King," is the highest and most majestic of the four, plunging straight down with regal grace. Roarer lives up to its name with a thunderous descent, creating a misty spray that fills the air. Rocket shoots down in a series of rapid bursts, while Rani, the "Queen," gracefully cascades down in a serene flow, adding a touch of elegance to the ensemble. The true magnificence of Jog Falls is best experienced during the monsoon season, from June to September, when the Sharavathi River is in full spate. The water volume increases dramatically, and the falls thunder down with an overwhelming force from a height of approximately 830 feet (253 meters). The surrounding landscape is lush and verdant, with the mist from the falls creating rainbows that add to the enchanting scenery.

Beyond its natural beauty, Jog Falls is also a hub for eco-tourism and adventure activities. The nearby Sharavathi Adventure Camp, just 9 kilometers away, offers a variety of activities including trekking, kayaking, and wildlife spotting. Managed by Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR), the camp provides an ideal base for exploring the region's rich biodiversity and enjoying the pristine environment. Visitors can hike down to the base of the falls for a closer view, although the climb back up is steep and challenging, rewarding adventurers with an unparalleled perspective of the falls’ immense power and beauty. The viewpoint at the top also offers panoramic vistas that capture the entire expanse of the waterfall and the surrounding dense forests.

Jog Falls is not just a waterfall but a symbol of nature's grandeur and a testament to the raw beauty of India's landscapes. Whether you're a nature lover, an adventure enthusiast, or someone seeking a tranquil escape, Jog Falls and its surroundings offer an unforgettable experience that resonates with the splendor and power of the natural world.

Sharavathi Camp Reviews

Property is very good with clean and neat rooms. Food is basic, but super tasty. They have free boat rides, coracle rides, kayaking and visits to jog falls(can choose between visit to Jog falls or Nature walk). They also provide paid Jet-Ski.

This is a nice property right in front of a beautiful mega reservoir. The water sports activities are excellent and kids friendly. The restaurant is nice and has excellent views of the reservoir. The sunset from here is amazing. Prices are reasonable and service is prompt. If you are visiting Shimoga then go for this without a doubt.

Monsoon is the best time to visit Jog Falls and see them in their full splendour but if you want to enjoy other activities like watersports and bird watching then the ideal time is just after the end of the monsoons.

Rooms are clean and well maintained. All the staff wear the mask and hand sanitizer provided in the main office and at the restaurant.

The resort is situated on the slope of a hill. It has 18 well appointed cottages and a special cottage. The place is literally a nature retreat with no communication means for tourists - no phone, Internet or TV in the rooms (only the special cottage has TV and AC).

Ideal for a getaway even for two nights despite the nearly 7 hour drive from Bangalore. Quiet and calm. Food was great. Rooms are perched up so it’s quite a climb for older people. They are clean, but if you need anything - ask in advance (including hand towels). The balconies are a great place to sit down, soak in the quiet and breeze.
