The Blackbuck Resort Experience

Bidar, which borders Maharashtra in Karnataka's north-eastern region, has green stretches of lush forests. The endangered blackbuck roams freely among the leafy canopy of the woods, galloping on grassy plains and quenching their thirst at gleaming watering holes. The black buck, also known as the Indian antelope, is a stunning tall mammal with long ringed horns that rise high above their heads. Hunting blackbucks is prohibited under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and are extinct in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Small herds of blackbuck and the diurnal antelope, can be found in protected areas of the Indian landscape. This mighty antelope was an important part of the Indus Valley Civilization in Indian culture and has been depicted in the rich art of the Mughal era. According to Hindu mythology, the blackbuck pulled Lord Krishna's sacred chariot and was Vayu's vehicle (the wind god).

The Blackbuck Resort, nestled next to the Vilaspur Lake and close to the Honnikeri Reserve Forest, is a sprawling oasis that brings you up close and personal with this lovely antelope. The resort is surrounded by thickets of greenery, and away from the harsh lights of the city, the soothing ambience of nature reigns supreme. The silence is frequently broken by the fluting singing of birds, as if nature is smiling while you sleep in your cosy wooden cottage. Your cottage stands tall beside the sparkling lake, providing unobstructed views of the sun glinting on its cool, clear waters or the moon shining over the peaceful forest at night.

Take a walk down the green trails to view the spectacular variety of avian wildlife that flocks to the forest, including the royal blue, showy peacock, which may open its exquisite fan of colourful feathers. The pleasant weather allows for long strolls through Bidar, where remnants of the great Bahmani Dynasty have withstood the test of time. Here, you'll find a mix of Persian, Turkish, and Hindu architectural styles that attest to the capital's various cultural influences.

Bidar is a beautiful jewel in the heart of the Deccan Plateau and a heritage treasure trove that is often overlooked. As night falls, dine in the rustic, community-style Gol Ghar on delicious, freshly prepared food flavoured with regional spices!
