On your next visit to this beautiful Union Territory, step into Pondy’s past at the French Marigold Retreat, a peaceful haven that takes you away from the noise of the concrete jungle and allows you to connect with yourself on a deeper, more spiritual level.
Painted a soft marigold, the French Marigold Retreat was once owned by Leon Guerre, the first Mayor of Pondicherry and is around 200 years old. The owners are clearly history buffs, as each room has been maintained and restored to reflect the villa as it looked like in the past. With vintage furniture that has been sourced from old homes that were being demolished, the retreat offers you airy spaces full of natural golden light, lush green gardens and comfy antique furniture that invite you to sink into it and relax.
The best part of the retreat is that it believes in maintaining an atmosphere of peace, with minimal noise to disturb its guests that enjoy their time practicing Yoga or meditation in this refreshing seaside town. During the lazy afternoon, you can head to the courtyard and enjoy a cup of tea as the light trickles down through the greenery or you can even feast on a traditional South Indian breakfast, complete with fluffy idlis and tangy green chutneys.
