Once the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, it is now maintained by Karnataka’s Department of Horticulture. The name “Kemmannugundi” means red soil, reflecting the fertile land ideal for coffee plantations and diverse flora.
At 1,434 meters above sea level, Kemmannugundi offers breathtaking panoramic views, cool year-round climate, and vibrant birdlife—perfect for trekking enthusiasts. The treks start at multiple points, leading to waterfalls, dams, and scenic sunrise and sunset spots.

- Wonderful place. Excellent climate and good food at the restaurant, try pepper chicken, chicken fried rice. In certain ways, it’s better than Ooty and Kodai and Munnar as they are overcrowded nowadays.
- The place is right in between the jungle. The trek was awesome. The staff is really courteous and they help you with the places around to visit.
- You'll feel like you are living inside a forest, so peaceful and relaxing. Definitely one amazing experience and a must-visit place to stay if you are in Kemangundi. I'm sure now that JLR'S taken over the cleanliness and hygiene will top the priority.
