The Kabini River is one of the major tributaries of the river Cauvery in South India. Originating in Wayanad, the river gently meanders through beautiful grasslands and forests, lush and vibrant in their natural beauty.
Your trek takes you through thick jungles where you spot indigenous flora and fauna thriving in the warm sunshine. Along the trail, you visit an ancient tribal temple nestled in a little clearing deep in the forest. These hidden temples are sacred to the Thirumugham, Elliampath, Cheriyamala and Kandamala communities who maintain and pray at this enchanting temple sculpted out of aged stone. Walk through lovely paddy fields, filled with fragrant rice called ‘gandhakashala; a rare, delicate strain of rice known for its scent.
Finally, you arrive at the Kabini river and you cross the cool waters on light bamboo rafts. Dine on a delicious local lunch that has received rave reviews in a global newsletter.
The last part of our trek takes us on a drive to the famous Thirunelli Temple. The temple is famous in Hindu mythology and is said to have been constructed by Lord Brahma himself. The drive to the temple is a treat as you pass through the enchanting Begur and Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuaries.
Are you ready for an adventure that delves into the history and the mysterious secrets of the Kabini? This trek is sure to delight you and leave you with a big smile on your face.
