About Old Magazine House

Dandeli is called the ‘Adventure Capital of India’ and with its beautiful stretches of greenery, glistening waters, and rugged terrain, it’s more than what meets the eye. Old Magazine House in Dandeli brings you a hidden nook of this gorgeous adventure spot, allowing you to catch your breath and relax away from the fast-paced lifestyle of the city.

The camp is surrounded by verdant jungle, and thick sprouts of greenery bursting out from all sides, providing natural canopies for you to walk under and rejuvenate your senses. Located in a part of the forest that is not open to the general public, a variety of birds flock to this peaceful heaven on earth. Here, you can spot The Malabar Grey Hornbill, the Malabar Pied Hornbill, flycatchers, orioles, babblers, and more. At night, dine on the spacious terrace of the camp with a blanket of shining stars above you. Without the lights of the urban city, constellations can be seen easily, treating you to intricate patterns in the night sky. You can also dine by the campfire and warm yourself with its hot embers.

Love adventure sports? Pick from trekking, kayaking, or river rafting and glide down the waters of the Kali River for an experience that will leave you grinning ear-to-ear. The best time to visit the camp at Ganeshgudi is between October and March. During this time, migrant birds also visit Dandeli and their riotous colors are a sheer delight to see. For white water rafting, the season starts in November and continues till June. The forest comes alive during the monsoon season of June to September and is at its greenest. If you’d prefer to visit when Dandeli is dry and warm to soak up the sun, drop by between April and June!

What customers are saying:

  • The staff is extremely courteous, they go out of way to make your stay pleasurable. Waking up to the sounds of birds in the morning at wooden cottage is something that must be experienced.
  • Old magazine house isn't called a birders paradise for nothing, it’s probably the only place where you get rare birds as commoners in one place and almost 90percent chances of sighting very rare birds like Malabar trogon, taiga flycatcher, great hornbill etc. The stay is just exceptional and as usual very friendly staff and amazing food. Overall a must-visit place.
  • Excellent is a small word to describe this place. Everything was so perfect. Location, people working there, climate, etc. Very easy to reach from Mumbai by Train, this place is a must-visit for bird lovers. The hospitality and ambiance is top-notch. Usually for wildlife photographers need to adjust to whatever is available as the places are in a remote location but this was an exception.
  • One of the best places for bird watching, extensive arrangements such as a ‘hide’ and puddles for birds to bathe is available. The staff is polite and they have extensive knowledge about birds.
  • Excellent infrastructure. Ample scope for Bird Photography. Very helpful and polite staff.

Did not stay in the place but visited it. There was only dorms available which we did not take. Location is very nice. No airtel network. there is a bird hide natural one with no feeding. We could not see much activity. If there were natural feeds then birding would be more.

As a birder, you can't ask for more than this. For me, this is the first time I'm visiting OMG. I got 30-40 lifers. It was an exciting trip. Great service too for all the guests.
