About the experience

After a long week of meeting deadlines, finishing projects, and attending meetings, all whilst being chained to your office chair, your body deserves a good workout. Get the adrenaline pumping with a fun session of rock climbing, bound to stretch out all your sore limbs. Scale large boulders and make your way to the top for a surreal view from above. You’ll be strapped in with the latest in safety gear, so if you find yourself slipping off the boulder, you will safely reach the ground with a gradual descent.  

The beginner rope climbing workshop is best for first-timers or those that have been introduced to bouldering outdoors or indoors. This will be a top-rope climbing workshop. You will get a taste of climbing on ropes and at heights of 70-80 feet. Before setting off, you will learn the basics of safety, including belaying and using other safety equipment. 

In addition to learning the skills, it is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people to partner with and venture outdoors as you build your network. All safety equipment such as rope, harness, climbing shoes and chalk will be provided. 

If you like the outdoors, you will love bouldering. Bouldering is a great introductory activity to rock climbing because you only climb rocks that are small. Bouldering is the most social form of rock climbing and is a lot of fun outdoors with other experienced rock climbers. While people in your group take turns to try the boulders, you will also get to talk to other people and socialize in a friendly and high-energy environment.

Bouldering is also a great physical exercise. You not only use your arms but you engage your entire core and lower body. It also challenges your problem-solving skills to try some different techniques and crack routes. You just need special climbing shoes and chalk and a specially designed mattress called a crash pad to try bouldering. All equipment will be provided for you to enjoy a great day outdoors.

This is a beginner-friendly workshop led by some of the best and friendliest climbers in India. Being organised in a beautiful place outdoors, you are bound to learn a lot and come back inspired.

FAQs

 I have not climbed before. Can I join the session?

Our bouldering workshops are best for first-timers or people who have tried climbing indoors and want to go outdoors. We also have lots of experienced climbers join us to coach beginners and enjoy the outdoors.

How far are the places where these events are organised?

The location is shared in advance with everyone to plan and reach before starting the event. Most of our events are very accessible from the city. Avathi, one of our favourite spots is just 30 minutes on the airport road.

I do not have a ride to the location. Is there any way to carpool or a common way to travel?

We coordinate carpooling within the group that comes to the event. In general, you should be able to get a ride with one of the rock climbers or the participants in the group. The organisers don't provide travel as a service.

Can I climb in my running shoes?

You need special rock climbing shoes to experience rock climbing the right way. We will provide this to you. We will usually size them one size smaller than your street size for a better grip on the rock.

How do I prepare for the event?

Carry 1-2 litres of water; wear something comfortable. We recommend participants to wear sports attire like leggings/ track pants (to avoid scratches) that is flexible but not too loose that would get caught on the rocks while climbing. We might be out in the sun, so wear a hat. Cut your nails to avoid infections and remove all jewelry on hands for better functionality of fingers while climbing. Carry some snacks (bananas, bars or other nibbles). Don't forget to follow us on Instagram (avathi.outdoors) to get excited about climbing.

Do you provide food?

We don't provide food. Please make sure you are well fed before you start. we don't stop for food on the way as most people are excited about getting to the rocks soon. Do pack some food along with you for longer day sessions.

What do you provide?

We will provide all the equipment required to experience rock climbing the safest way. Our organisers share their knowledge of climbing and enjoying the outdoors. They will also carry specially designed crash pads to help keep you safe. We also provide chalk to apply on your fingers to climb.

Is there any age limit for rock climbing?

There is no age limit. As long as you have fitness (i.e. can take 2 stairs at a time) you can enjoy climbing. Please consult your physician if you have serious ailments that stop you from doing moderate physical activity. We have kids aged 5 to people in their 50s join our workshops. If you are under 18 years, you need to be accompanied by an adult.
