Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary spans 159 square kilometers and was established in 1959 to safeguard the Indian bison and Bengal tiger. Located between the Mahananda and Teesta River in Siliguri, West Bengal, this expansive forest reserve is a habitat for a variety of wildlife including rare mountain goats, Cheetal, barking deer, fishing cats, sambar, tigers, elephants, Indian bison, and migratory birds.
