Sri Sri Ugratara Devalaya

Located in the heart of Guwahati city in the Lotaxil locality, Ugra Tara Temple was built in 1725 by the Ahom ruler Siva Singh. This important Shakti temple is a unique attraction, as it enshrines the deity of Tara (Devi) without a traditional idol. Instead, worshippers revere a pitch of water as Goddess Tara, believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. The temple complex also includes the Jorepukhuri water tank, which survived a devastating earthquake. Devotees honor the Goddess with offerings and sacrifices, including meat, coconut, and liquor, as a display of their love and devotion.
