Things To do in Varkala

Overview

Varkala Beach, also known as Papanasam Beach, is a serene and secluded stretch of sand located about 10 km away from the peaceful village of Varkala in Kerala. The beach is renowned for its natural spring, believed to have medicinal properties and the ability to wash away sins, giving it the name 'Destroyer of Sins.' The backdrop of the Arabian Sea against the unique cliffs of Kerala creates a picturesque setting, unlike other commercial beaches in Thiruvananthapuram. The beach is divided into two parts, with the southern area leading from Janardhana Swamy Temple, considered sacred by Hindus, and the north part at the bottom of the cliff known for its natural mineral spring. Visitors can enjoy pristine sunsets and indulge in some of India's best and affordable seafood at the nearby eating joints.
